Vertifi has a set of best practices for integrations based on the real-world feedback from credit union members and their back-office support staff. The set of best practices is the culmination of years of remote deposit processing experience. It represents the best user experience for the depositors as well as the institution. Implementation of all the best practices is a requirement for becoming a platinum partner.
If you peruse the app stores and read the reviews by credit union members, a common theme is remote deposit problems. Image too small, image to blurry, etc. The user experience isn’t great when the member fills out the entire deposit form and submits it to the server before receiving any feedback, possibly having to restart the deposit with new check images altogether. Allowing the phone to process the images, crop them to the correct size, ensure the MICR is readable, and the endorsement is present before trying to submit the deposit provides the member with valuable feedback before submitting the deposit.
Handling image processing as the member steps through the remote deposit process requires more coding work. There are more error cases to handle in each step of the process, rather than only after the submission of the complete deposit.
